Monotechnic Programmes Department

Introduction

The Monotechnic Programmes Department is a vital component of the Board responsible for the coordinated development of technical education programmes leading to the award of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Health, and other programmes under Specialized Technical Institutions in the country.

 

The Department was established in 2015 from the former Programmes Department; it is structured into four divisions and units under each division.

 

Vision

To be a leading Department in the coordinated development of technical education.

 

Mission

To oversee the promotion and development of technical skills manpower in agriculture, health, and other related disciplines for the socio-economic development of the nation.

 

Functions of the Department

a) Maintaining minimum academic standards in Colleges of Agriculture, Colleges of Health, and Specialized Technical Institutions. 

 

b) Advising on the programmes to be pursued by the Colleges of Agriculture, Colleges of Health, and Specialized Technical Institutions. 

 

c) Coordinating the development of the institution through accreditation, re-accreditation, advisory, resource inspection, carrying capacity, and monitoring visitations. 

d) Participating in the development of minimum guide curricula in various disciplines of agriculture, health, and related disciplines. 

 

e) Advising and harmonizing the duration of courses/programmes. 

 

f) Collation of information relating to Technical and Vocational Education in Nigeria, such as the Directory of Accredited Programmes Offered in TVET Institutions in Nigeria. 

 

g) Organizing consultative meetings between the Executive Secretary and the heads of institutions. 

 

h) Expanding access to TVET through Industry and Private Sector participation. 

 

i) Any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executive Secretary.

 

Structure of the Department

The Department is headed by a Director, assisted by four Deputy Directors. The four Deputy Directors head the four Divisions of the Department.

 

The Divisions

a) Agriculture and Technology Division (ATD) 

b) Health Technology Division (HTD) 

c) Specialised Institutions Division (SID) 

d) Monotechnic Programmes Support Division (MSD)

 

a) Agricultural Technology Division

This is the division that anchors the standardization and coordination of all agricultural and related programmes at the middle level of manpower training outside the university.

 

Functions of Agricultural Technology Division

The Division performs the following functions:

  • Coordination of the development of curricula of agricultural and related programmes at HND ND, NID, NVC, NTC, and NSQ levels.

 

  • Coordination of accreditation, re-accreditation, resources inspection, advisory, and carrying capacity visitations of agricultural programmes to Agricultural Colleges and Polytechnics, Innovation Enterprise Institutions, Vocational Enterprise Institutions, and Technical Colleges.

 

  • Organizing consultative meetings between the heads of agricultural institutions and the Executive Secretary.

 

Structure of the Division

The Division is headed by a Deputy Director and assisted by three Chief Programme officers who coordinate the units. The units are:

  • Agronomy and Related Programmes Unit

  • Animal Science Unit

  • Agricultural Extension, Management, and Related Programmes Unit

 

b) Health Technology Division

This is the Division that anchors the standardization and coordination of all health and related programmes at the middle level of manpower training outside the university.

 

Functions of Health Technology Division

The Division performs the following functions:

  • Coordination of development of curricula of health and related programmes at HND, ND and NID levels.

 

  • Coordination of accreditation, re-accreditation, resources inspection, advisory and carrying capacity visitations of health programmes to Colleges of Health Technology, Colleges of Nursing Sciences, Polytechnics and Innovation Enterprise Institutions.

 

  • Organizing consultative meetings between the heads of Health Institutions and the Executive Secretary.

 

Structure of the Division

The Division is headed by a Deputy Director who coordinates the units. The units are:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Programmes Unit

  • Health Technology Programmes Unit

  • Medical and Related Programmes Unit

 

c) Specialised Institutions Division

This is the Division that anchors the standardization and coordination of programmes offered by the Specialised Technical Institutions in conjunction with Polytechnic Programmes Department.

 

Functions of Specialised Institutions Division

The division performs the following functions:

 

  • Coordination of development of curricula of Management, Art and Engineering and related programmes at HND and ND level in conjunction with Polytechnic Programmes Divisions and Curriculum Development Department.

 

  • Coordination of accreditation, re-accreditation, resources inspection, advisory and carrying capacity visitations of programmes to Specialised Technical Institutions.

 

  • Organizing consultative meetings between the heads of Specialised institutions and the Executive Secretary.

 

Structure of the Division

The division is headed by a Deputy Director and assisted by three Programme Officers who coordinate the units. The units are:

 

  • Engineering and Related Programmes Unit

  • Applied Science and Related Programmes Unit

  • Management, Arts, and Related Programmes Unit

 

d) Monotechnic Support Division (MSD)

This is the Division that supports the development of the Department. The Division is headed by a Deputy Director and assisted by three Programme Officers representing each Division.

 

Functions of the Division

  • Collation of Self Study Questionnaires (SSQ) submitted by the Institutions from the Executive Secretary’s Office.

  • Distribution of SSQ to the Divisions for assessments.

  • Collation of assessed SSQ from the Divisions.

  • Harmonization of Departmental visitation schedules.

  • Coordination of Institutional Administration of Monotechnic Institutions.

  • Communication of visitation outcomes to the institutions.

  • Development of Monotechnic Directory of Accredited Programmes.
