Inspectorate
The Inspectorate Department has three Divisions as follows:
1. Monitoring and Compliance Division
2. Inspection and Investigation Division
3. Legal and Support Service Unit
Functions of the Divisions
1. Monitoring and Compliance Division
The division has the following functions:
i. To monitor the running and award of national qualifications through part-time, weekend and evening programmes in institutions under the purview of the Board;
ii. To carry out unscheduled compliance and monitoring visits to prospective and existing private and public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under the purview of the Board;
iii. To submit reports on its activities to the Director/Head of Department on regular basis; and
iv. To undertake any related assignment that may be referred to it by the Director/Head of Department.
2. Inspection and Investigation Division
The division has the following functions:
i. To handle complaints and correspondences from individuals, organisations, institutions and security and anti-graft agencies against illegal institutions and other related matters;
ii. To perform administrative investigation of reported cases of illegal institutions, satellite campuses and study centres in Nigeria;
iii. To investigate reports of cases of certificate racketeering and fraud;
iv. To investigate cases of non-payment of salaries for staff in all TVET institutions;
v. To investigate all cases of Management, staff and students disputes;
vi. To interface with the national security and anti-graft agencies for full investigation of illegal institutions;
vii. To investigate reported cases of irregularities in the mobilization of diplomats of TVET institutions for NYSC scheme;
viii. To submit reports on its activities to the Director/Head of Department on regular basis; and
ix. To undertake any related assignment that may be referred to it by the Director/Head of Department.
3. Legal and Support Service Unit
The unit has the following functions:
i. To propose innovative approaches and action plans on how to curb the activities of illegal institutions, study centres and satellite campuses operating in Nigeria;
ii. To compile list of unapproved and illegal institutions, study centres and satellite campuses annually or as may be requested by the Executive Secretary;
iii. To confirm the accreditation status of all TVET institutions in Nigeria and programmes offered by them;
iv. To co-ordinate all fact-finding and investigation teams to institutions whenever the need arises;
v. To interface with other divisions, national security and anti-graft agencies for prosecution of promoters of illegal institutions;
vi. To collate and compile annual reports, strategic and work plans for the department;
vii. To organize in-house training programmes for the department;
viii. To produce draft letters for correspondences with external bodies;
ix. To be responsible for the dispatch and acknowledgement of all correspondences with external bodies;
x. To serve as secretariat for departmental meetings;
xi. To assist the Director/Head of Department to draft general/specific memos for Executive Secretary, Management Committee Meetings and Governing Board considerations;
xii. To submit reports on its activities to the Director/Head of Department on regular basis; and
xiii. To undertake any assignment that may be referred to it by the Director/Head of Department.
